Men's Chorus

The San Fernando Valley Male Chorus has been singing in and around the San Fernando Valley for over 60 years. The Chorus was founded in 1957 and has been registered as a non-profit organization since 1969. The Chorus has no political or religious affiliations. Currently, we merely use the facilities of a church. Our sole purpose is to foster the sound of choral male four-part harmony while including the opportunity for solos and quartets.

The Chorus is open to men of all ages, backgrounds, and ethnicities. The only requirements are a love of singing, a willingness to attend rehearsals on a regular basis and to participate in our shows. Our repertoire includes music from all genres, including: pop, Broadway, classical, opera, spiritual and religious.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Over the years, in addition to our annual shows, the Chorus has volunteered its services to various community and charitable events including: the Christmas Eve music festival held at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, the annual open house festival of the Los Angeles County Art Commission, the annual Shriners Christmas party for children with disabilities at the L.A. Unified School District’s school for the handicapped, as well as for frequent military ceremonies at the U.S. Naval Base in Port Hueneme. We have also performed for the Western Fire Fighters Instructors Conference, and sung The Star Spangled Banner for the Los Angeles Kings and Galaxy.

ONE COMMON BOND

Our Chorus has had members from a wide range of occupations, including: bricklayers, barbers, doctors, engineers, bankers, teachers and students; all sharing one common bond…a love of music and the sound of four-part male harmony.

CONDUCTOR

Our current conductor is Matthew Park, who brings an impressive 30 years of experience as a musician and director. Out of those three decades, he has dedicated 20 years to the SFVMChorus (San Fernando Valley Male Chorus). Matthew currently holds the position of music director at St. John Eudes Catholic Church in Chatsworth, California. At the church, he skillfully leads three distinct choirs and has had the privilege of touring across Europe and Asia with various musical ensembles.

In addition to his work at the church, Matthew also serves as the accompanist for four different school choral programs. Furthermore, he passionately directs and accompanies numerous musical theatre shows every year, showcasing his versatility and talent. His performances have graced renowned venues such as the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center, CSUN (California State University, Northridge), Hunger Artist’s Theatre, Santa Monica Playhouse, High Street Theatre, SCCT (Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center), Granada Theatre, TROLL, IOTA, Not So Artful Productions, Chaminade College Preparatory, Santa Susana High School, and Alemany High School. Matthew’s dedication to music and his broad range of experiences make him an exceptional director/conductor for our ensemble.

PERFORMANCES

Annually, the Chorus stages two major performances: a Holiday show in December and a Spring show in May. In addition, throughout the year we also perform at various private parties, meetings and special events. For further details or a fee quote, please see PRIVATE EVENTS and contact our President under CONTACT US.

JOIN

The Chorus invites men of any age who share our love of singing to join us. Although helpful, the ability to read music is not required. After a few rehearsals, we will help you determine whether your voice fits better in the range of tenor, baritone or bass. We invite all interested men to attend one of our rehearsals. We meet every Monday evening at 8:00 PM at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 23838 Kittridge Street, West Hills, CA 91307; for a map, see our Rehearsal Location and Time below.

Please note that we do break after our Holiday show in early December and we also go on a summer hiatus following our Spring show in late May.
